The War Cry | JULY 2013
Standing Together in OKLAHOMA
............
Elie Wiesel learned while watching his father and sister
put to death in a prison camp that "Since God is, He is
to be found in the questions as well as the answers."
Through years of anger, doubt and inquiry, he grew to understand
that "If life--mine or that of my fellow man--is not an offering to
the other, what are we doing on this earth?" His hope for humanity
lies in reaching the time when no one is left to suffer in loneliness.
While Salvation Army emergency response personnel and volunteers
offer tangible assistance to victims of tornadoes in Oklahoma, they
also offer intangible signs that love, community, goodwill and under-
standing are building blocks of hope and new life.
B
rad McMullan didn't vol-
unteer
with The Salvation
Army just to help his fellow
Oklahomans. The Army min-
istered to his father after the
Oklahoma bombing in 1995. He
is part of the Emotional Spiritual
Care team, providing counseling
and prayers for those who have
lost everything. He is chairman
of the Army's Advisory Board in
Jackson, Mississippi, and CEO
of two technology companies,
bfac.com and textingleader.com.
As a survivor of the Holocaust,
"The Salvation Army is the first in
and one of the last to leave," he says.
"
E
veryone calls me Eickey,"
one tornado survivor told
Cindy Fuller, Communications
Director for the Army's Arkansas
Oklahoma Division when she asked
if she could pray with him. He had
left work just 15 minutes before the
tornado hit the town of Moore that
Monday morning in May. Eickey's
wife also survived, though the fam-
ily did lose their cat. "You gotta go
on. You just can't stop; you just can't
stop" he says.

Brad McMullan remembered how the
Army ministered to his father after
the Oklahoma bombing in 1995.
The Salvation Army continues twenty-four
hour support in Oklahoma and won't
stop "Doing The Most Good" at
any time of the day--or night.
